Light after dark in a rural school

  1. 01 · The need
    What was happening?

    The primary school and clinic had no electricity. Evening classes were impossible and vaccines could not be stored safely.

  2. 02 · The intervention
    What did DKF do?

    After a community needs assessment and public validation, DKF installed a 5kW solar system with battery storage, and trained two local technicians.

  3. 03 · The result
    What changed?

    Lighting for 6 classrooms and the clinic; a working vaccine fridge; evening adult-literacy classes started with 42 learners.

  4. 04 · The follow-up · 6 months
    What happened after 3, 6 or 12 months?

    System fully operational; maintenance committee collects small monthly contributions; two technicians now service neighbouring villages.

From ₦200,000 to a thriving tailoring business

    What was happening?

    A widowed mother of four earned irregular income mending clothes by hand and could not keep her children in school.

  2. 02 · The intervention
    What did DKF do?

    Selected through the Monthly Empowerment Programme, she received ₦200,000, the DKF Small Business Basics course and a mentor.

  3. 03 · The result
    What changed?

    Bought an industrial sewing machine and fabric stock; income tripled within four months.

  4. 04 · The follow-up · 12 months
    What happened after 3, 6 or 12 months?

    Business still operating at 12 months; she employs one apprentice and all four children are in school.
